While emphatically refusing to comment on any rumors regarding its partner in UnitedLinux, representatives from SuSE Linux did issue a brief comment today regarding how any possible change in Turbolinux's status would effect UnitedLinux.
In short, not at all.
Representatives from Turbolinux have not issued any statements, either on or off the record, regarding the various rumors regarding their demise. These rumors were first made mention in the online press by LinuxGram in a story posted late yesterday (see Related Story).
However, when Linux Today contacted other members of the UnitedLinux consortium of which Turbolinux is a part, SuSE Linux AG did choose to issue two very brief statements.
First, the company made clear its stance on the ambiguity of the status of Turbolinux: "SuSE Linux does not comment [on] any rumors," a company representative said.
In the second brief statement, SuSE did lay to rest any potential impact a change at Turbolinux would have on the UnitedLinux effort.
"Any possible changes at Turbo or other UnitedLinux partners, would not affect the UnitedLinux development, as SuSE's development team is responsible for quality and schedule," the statement said.
The decision to issue the statements came from over a half-day of business passing in Europe, with rumors flying regarding not only the fate of Turbolinux but UnitedLinux as well.
None of this clears the air on what exactly is going on at Turbolinux. The San-Francisco based company has extensive sales and retail inroads throughout Asia and is regarded as a strong Linux force there.
