blender3d.com: Open Blender Project Outlined

The campaign to free Blender sources is coming to an end, thanks to the effort of the Blender comunity and Blender creator Ton Roosendaal. The 100k € needed has been almost reached. Now a general overview on the upcoming Open Blender project can be read [below].

"To keep maximum freedom, a minimum of conflicting interests, and an efficient migration path, the following structure has been proposed to organize Blender's future. Most important aspect is that we keep the existing web-sites, and concentrate on building a new portal, where artist/coder services are concentrated...

"For the time being, especially to keep it simple, this site remains the official Blender Foundation site. In time, this can move to a dot org domain, or dissolve in the blender.org site...

"This will be a brand new portal, a general platform where all services and (sub)communities around the new open Blender reside. I will be sourceforge.org alike, we might even copy this or use their services, that has not been decided on. Current preference is to build it all ourselves, also to have an attractive site where artists and writers can participate as well. The next section will describe the new portal in more detail..."
