"Hilaire Fernandes told us of a new contest to develop
educational 'boards' for GCompris:
"From our contacts with professionals in the education sector,
it appears to us (it is not surprising!) that the big issue using
GNU/Linux in kindergarten and primary schools is the lack of
educative applications for these age ranges. (Note: I, Hilaire
Fernandes, working for the French government in the field of ICT,
have been unable in several situations to encourage the use of the
GNU/Linux system because of this point).
"Therefore, the idea of the contest is to boost the creation of
educative boards for GCompris. For that, we use the excuse of the
port of the EPI games from the '80's to GCompris to set up a
contest where the best ports will be rewarded.
"The EPI games were a series of MS-DOS-based educational
programs widely used in France in the 1980's. We think this is a
very good way to increase the amount of educational software for
Linux quickly..."
