"The South African Cabinet yesterday approved the Government OSS strategy. The announcement was made by Minister of Public Services and Administration Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi shortly before delivering her budget vote speech to Parliament. In her speech Fraser-Moleketi said Government is 'looking forward' the many benefits of open source software.

"During her budget vote speech, Fraser-Moleketi said 'South Africa is proud to be amongst the countries that have adopted Open Source Software (OSS) policies. The improved returns on investment associated with the elimination of licensing are exciting and we look forward to ending maintenance agreements that lock government into expensive long-term contracts...'"
