"Four weeks ago I wrote a column on Linux. It listed several
myths about this open-source computer operating system software.
For each myth, I described the kernel of truth behind the myth,
then debunked the myth itself.
"Generally favourable, it nevertheless took a balanced,
sometimes critical approach.
"The response was a storm of 40 e-mails, way more than the norm,
according to my editor. While most expressed favourable views about
the column, several took issue with specific points.
"The experience taught me a thing or two about the Linux
community and global communications. I also learned more about the
challenges of making Linux work for non-technical users like
