"Welcome to the first installment of a new series. During this project, I'll be installing several Linux distributions, running them each for a week, and keeping a daily journal. I'm pretty excited about this, especially since a machine was recently purchased for this specific function. This is a pretty standard machine that's a few years old, and likely to be fairly typical of someone's first Linux machine. It's not top of the line, but by no means a slouch and should be able to run any Linux distribution fairly comfortably. Please keep in mind that this series will show my experiences only. "In preparation for this machine's arrival, I'd downloaded boot floppy and net driver images from the Fedora site a couple of days prior, to do an FTP installation. The Fedora site has several screenshots of their installer available. The boot floppy fired up just fine, as did the driver disk. I input the necessary network info for my LAN, then input the info for the online Fedora archive and off we went--or so I thought..."
