"Day 1 of the Open Source in Government mini conference at LCA 2004 has been a pleasant and informative start. Let me say from the outset that the organizers should take a bow. The environment, weather, organization and registration process made the day a wonderful experience.

"The OSG mini conference opened with an address by the Hon. Ian Gilfillan Deputy Parliamentary Leader of the S.A. Democrats. His effort in the SA parliament to have Open Source considered as more than a passing fad is to be commended, especially in the face of the lobby against the proposal, who, it seems, are following the same path as the proprietary opponents to open source.

"Laugh of the day goes to the Honorable Member when he spoke of a test Open Office install in his office that has been banned from the parliament’s network by the Parliamentary Network Support Group (PNSG)..."
