"Although LAN networking hardware doesn't track Moore's law, it has been tracking a nice curve of increasing performance at a decreasing cost. Where chip density and processor power are ever inching forward, network bandwidth in the server room will plateau for a while, and then jump, often by a factor of 10 (or an order of magnitude for those of you still counting in decimal).
