"Today we are caught in the middle of a war between those who believe in freedom and those who believe in control. That is how I would be inclined to describe the way that open-source advocates are facing off against those in the field of commercial software in general, and against Microsoft in particular.

"One of my pro-Microsoft friends recently remarked that he did not have any problem with the open-source development methodology, whereby source code was opened for people to see and debug collectively. He did not have any problems with open-source vendors such as Red Hat and, to a lesser extent, Sun, IBM and Oracle either..."
