"I began playing around with the Linux desktop back in 1998 when
the real players were RedHat, Caldera OpenLinux, and SuSE. There
really was not a good distribution for the new user and Linux had
years to go before it would be ready to this end. I remember
choosing OpenLinux and the struggles I went through getting my
hardware to work. Back then you really had to know ALL the details
of each device you wanted to install. Took hours! I did get
OpenLinux to install somehow, but found the distro to be unuseable
and lacking much in the way of applications. I decided then that
Linux was not ready for the primetime and returned to using
Win98..."
