"Linux has been a very popular buzzword for the last few years,
recently edging out 'paradigm' as the buzzword of choice in IT
circles. It is used to describe a number of things, several of
which have little or nothing to do with Linux.
"Firstly, Linux is a trademark owned by Linus Torvalds. The word
Linux is often used without trademark acknowledgement and may have
already become a generic term so it is entirely likely that an
attempt to defend the trademark would fail. In contrast, the Open
Group has been fairly zealous in maintaining the UNIX
trademark--last year suing Apple for describing Mac OS X as UNIX
without first submitting it for certification..."
