"A friend shopping for his first computer mentioned he could probably get a new system for around $400. I recommended one of those $200 machines from Walmart (built by Microtel), which used to come with Linspire, but now comes with Xandros. I assured him I'd be able to help with any problems. He gave me a check for $250 so I could purchase the computer, set the thing up and show him how to use it.

"These systems are only available through the walmart.com website, not in stores. Apparently their shopping cart is only friendly with Internet Explorer, so I had to use the telephone to order. That was an ordeal I'd rather not repeat. At one point, the salesperson went away for a long time and returned to tell me my zip code was invalid. Then she tried to tell me I had said Iowa, not Ohio. I'd probably have trouble pointing Iowa out on a map--besides, I know which state I live in..."
