"If you work with computers a lot, people inevitably find out
about it and enlist you to help them with their systems.
Personally, I get more of these calls than I would like to admit.
Though the services rendered are almost always time consuming and
tedious tasks, people generally appreciate the help and are willing
to return the favor when they can. This process can become much
worse with chronic problems, such as the one I had been dealing
with for almost a year. The computer, which soon became my
arch-nemisis, was a two year old Dell Pentium 4. This was by any
means a solid system which should have been working fine but
definitely was not..."
