"Technology students in India have very little exposure to Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). This is primarily due to its absence from the tech curriculum, which leaves just enough time for some to pursue it on their dormitory computers. On top of it, lack of encouragement and mentoring from the universities, ensures FOSS fails to breach the 'hobby' barrier.

"In line with its role as one of India's leading universities, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has launched a 6-week workshop to expose more students to the benefits of FOSS. The program aims to partner student programmers from local Delhi colleges with bio-informatics experts from JNU to come up with a complete suite of open-source software for bio-informatics..."
