ConsortiumInfo: IBM Adopts Open Patent Policy

"The New York Times reports this morning that IBM will announce a new patent policy later today. Under that policy, IBM will make several dramatic changes in how it utilizes the patent process, and how and when it makes its patents known externally. In issuing its new policy, IBM is making the latest public effort by a major patent owner to 'up the ante' on voluntarily limiting its own rights under what is widely seen as a flawed software patent system. IBM clearly hopes that this move will increase pressure on other companies to accelerate efforts to improve the quality of software patents..."
