"Better late than never: Klaus Knopper, the maker of Knoppix, has released version 5.1.0 of his Linux distribution that runs from CD or DVD. In addition to regular updates and the usual bug fixes, this latest version of Knoppix also contains a few genuine innovations. The new version is based on Debian etch/testing as the base distribution and kernel 2.6.19(.1) with fuse 2.6.1. For reasons of stability and performance, unionfs, the file system used up until now, has made way for aufs ('another unionfs'); the author also says that NTFS-3G allows for writing onto NTFS partitions almost without restrictions. OpenOffice 2.1 and KDE 3.5.5 are also used, with the rudimentary integration of beryl and emerald providing the first few fancy effects..."
