"Since gNewSense doesn't use proprietary drivers, and since the open source free versions don't have any 3d power, you won't be able to run things like Compiz and some of the other extreme eyecandy systems. Understand that this is not going to always remain true. If you're using an ATI, Via, or Intel card, if you don't already have elementary 3d support, you soon will."
