"What do we receive in return from our electron charged friends?
Quite a few things actually. We get to do more things in the same
amount of time. We have access to more information than we have
ever had in the history of our race. We can connect with people who
would have been impossible to connect with otherwise. Business as
we know it today would be impossible without technology and there
is no possible way we could reach the stars or touch the bottom of
the oceans without it.
"Yet as much as technology has become a part of our lives it
seems that we have put much of our lives into technology. We seem
to be using technology more and more to do our thinking for us. At
the risk of revealing my age (as if that hasn't happened already :)
I can remember in school where we did mathematical calculations in
our heads, or at most with a pencil and paper. Now I whip out the
electronic number cruncher to calculate the simplest of equations
(one plus one equals a window)."
