MEPIS Birthday Surprise: SimplyMEPIS 8.5 alpha Release
Nov 23, 2009, 16 :33 UTC (3 Talkback[s]) (3623 reads)

"Available from MEPIS and public mirrors, the ISO files for 32 and 64 bit processors are SimplyMEPIS-CD_8.4.80-a0_32.iso and SimplyMEPIS-CD_8.4.80-a0_64.iso.

"Warren Woodford explained the rationale behind the 8.5 release: "MEPIS is based on Debian Stable source which is extremely reliable and well supported by the Debian community. Debian makes a stable release approximately every two years, but MEPIS users are always anxious for the latest software. So when we deem it safe to do so, we cautiously update application software using newer sources. In this way, we keep the release relevant and interesting for a longer time."

"Warren continued: "In this case, a lot of users have asked that we support the KDE 4.3 desktop, yet other users have asked that we continue to support KDE 3.5.10. So in the spirit of our ongoing updates, we are building 8.5, not as a replacement for 8.0, but rather as an alternative for those users who want KDE 4.3. We will continue to support 8.0 with KDE 3.5.10 in parallel with 8.5 and KDE 4.3."
