Seven-inch tablet runs Android

"Shenzhen-based Eken announced a seven-inch tablet computer that runs either Android or Windows CE 6.0. The M001 has a 600MHz ARM-based processor, 128MB of RAM and 2GB of flash storage, an SD slot, stereo speakers, and 802.11b/g wireless networking, the company says.

"Eken's M001 is an attempt to tap into the market created by Apple's iPad, judging by the screen (complete with iPad label!) the company has Photoshopped onto the device (below). Instead of running the iPhone OS, however, the M001 is available with either Android or Windows CE, Eken claims.

"The M001 is said to have a seven-inch touchscreen -- resistive, we presume, though no details were given -- with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. According to Eken, the tablet uses a 600MHz Via "MW8505" processor. We take this to be the same CPU referred to by some other Chinese manufacturers as the VT8505, which is a version of the ARM9-based Prizm 8510 announced last year by Via subsidiary WonderMedia Technologies.
