"Samsung Electronics this week confirmed that it has shipped
more than 1 million of its Galaxy S smartphones since the line
debuted in mid-July, an impressive debut that indicates
Android-based devices pose a serious threat to both Apple and
Research In Motion in the hotly contested and extremely profitable
smartphone market.
"And those shipments figure to only jump higher later in the
week when the Android-based Sprint Epic 4G model is made available
on Tuesday.
""Bringing Galaxy S devices to multiple carriers has given
Samsung Mobile the opportunity to reach millions of consumers,"
Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Mobile, said in a statement. "I am
proud of the instant success of the Galaxy S lineup and I am very
pleased to announce that because of the support of our carrier
partners and loyal customers, we have shipped one million Galaxy S
devices in the U.S. market.""
