Developer's solo bid to enforce GPL short-circuited

"A Linux kernel developer's bid to enforce the terms of the GPL on a Singapore-based manufacturer of tablets has come unstuck - because production of the tablet in question has been discontinued.

"Matthew Garrett took the unusual step of writing to the US Customs in September, stating that fusionGarage, the maker of the JooJoo tablet, was not conforming to the terms of the GPL as it was withholding the source code from him.

"Garrett's move was based on advice offered by former Linux Journal editor Don Marti: "If you're a copyright holder, and the manufacturer exports to the USA, you can start an administrative proceeding with the US Customs Service. It looks much easier and less expensive than a court case"
