Here we are at the US Thanksgiving holiday again. I tend towards
a glass-half-empty perspective, so I make a point of reminding
myself of all the good things in my life, and there are a lot of
them. This morning I woke up in a warm house, with food in the
pantry and money in the bank. I can go outside without worrying
about someone shooting at me. I have good health and good friends.
I have a good job with a good boss and co-workers. I have not had
any power outages even during this extreme cold snap, which is a
miraculous concept that still escapes the electric utilities in so
many cities.
I'm thankful for the Electronic Frontier Foundation fighting to
protect my rights on so many different fronts. I'm thankful for
Richard Stallman and the Free Software Foundation, Groklaw and
Pamela Jones, Michael Geist, Cory Doctorow, Valerie Aurora, Kirrily
Robert, Andy Updegrove, Bradley Kuhn, Lawrence Lessig, Bruce
Schneier, Cathy Malmrose and all the thousands of other people who
are putting their money where their mouths are, and courageously
speaking out and trying to make the world a little better. Thank
you to everyone involved in FOSS; you are all doing important
work.
Linux Today will continue on a reduced schedule, with fresh
stories and talkbacks every day. I wish everyone an excellent
weekend, and I'll see you next week!
