Fujifilm starts shipping 5TB magnetic tapes

"This week Fujifilm has started shipping by far the largest magnetic tape cartridges ever produced while maintaining a very respectable 240MB/s transfer speed.

"At 5TB each, the StorageTek T1000C Tape Cartridges are 5x larger than the T1000B 1TB tapes Fujifilm is replacing and over 3x larger than the 1.5TB LTO Ultrium G5 tapes. Not only is it the largest, but also the first ever magnetic tape to use Barium-Ferrite (BaFe).

"Barium Ferrite tape and the development of BaFe Particles is what has allowed for the much higher capacity to be achieved. While Metal Particle tape remains the most popular, Fujifilm had to move away from using it due to difficulties increasing its storage capacity further:"
