Why open code is irrelevant to Android's success

"While Honeycomb code will be available to developers at partner
organizations, smaller shops will not be given access to the
tablet-optimized version of Android for the foreseeble future. Andy
Rubin, vice president of Android engineering at Google, explained
in a recent Bloomberg Business Week interview the trade-off that
led to the decision. 'We didn't want to think about what it would
take for the same software to run on phones,' Rubin explains."
