"On Wednesday, Caldera Systems announced it had purchased one-time Unix kingpin SCO and planned to release UnixWare as open source. On Thursday, Novell swung through New York on its "Netware isn't dead" press tour. It looks like Utah wants back on the technology map."
"While it might be hard for those new to the industry to fathom, SCO was once a true operating system powerhouse. SCO Unix powered just about every funeral parlor and dentist office from Santa Cruz to Somerville. Microsoft, with NT, and Sun, with Solaris on Intel, have attempted to make inroads into the same SOHO market, with only mixed success."
