"Newly crowned Hewlett-Packard chairwoman Carly Fiorina said Tuesday that the world is now entering the "renaissance of the information age" -- a time when emerging technologies and an "always-on Internet" could transform customer experience and even entire industries."

"Fiorina said Internet technology businesses must embrace these new demands and implement strategies, such as open systems and open-source software, to accommodate the changing tech sector. "The technology landscape is shifting in fundamental ways," she said. "A new game is emerging ... and the rules of competition are changing."

"She also said open-source software, such as Linux, is another key element in this new world. "It is at its core open," Fiorina said, adding that "this movement, of course, goes far beyond Linux."
