"A Federal government seminar next month on open source platforms will feature Microsoft prominently despite its status as chief tormentor of the Linux and open-source software movements.

"The National Office of the Information Economy (NOIE) will bring together chief information officers and chief technology officers from state and federal government departments and agencies for a one-day seminar on open-source software in the public sector at the National Press Club in Canberra on February 18.

"Microsoft is making the most of its opportunity, flying US business strategy senior vice-president Maggie Wilderotter to Australia to address the public sector troops.

"This has prompted rival software maker Sun Microsystems to complain about being frozen out of an official role at the seminar..."
