"By the end of this year, Thai companies will have an alternative when using 'enterprise resource planning' (ERP) software based on open-source platforms. It could be 10 times cheaper than existing ERP software in the market.

"GrandLinux Solution, a local software company, is one of the pioneers in the open-source software business. It was established to develop Linux software for local use, both in operating systems and office suites.

"Managing director Paitoon Butri, 33, who has worked on Linux development for six years, said the company is localising open-source ERP software called 'COMPIERE' to help Thai companies reduce the cost of ERP software investments..."
