"Telstra plans to use Sun Microsystems' just released Mad Hatter
desktop software as a replacement for Microsoft Windows as a part
of its massive technology revamp.
Telstra chief information officer Jeff Smith said the telco had
been trialling Mad Hatter--which was formally launched in the US
yesterday as Sun Java Desktop--as part of a series of pilot
programs aimed at reducing IT costs.
"Telstra hopes to cut up to $750 million from its $1.5 billion
annual IT budget. It has targeted Microsoft Windows and Office
desktop products, as well as Microsoft's server platforms as areas
of potential savings..."
