"Use of Linux is growing in Asia, according to the Open Source Development Labs standards group. Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) has joined the consortium and will participate in the lab's Data Center Linux and Carrier Grade Linux working group initiatives, OSDL announced.

"Another sign of its increasing popularity in the region is the participation of the Beijing Co-Create Open Source Software Company, the first Chinese member to join the consortium. It was formed in April 2001 to work with the international open-source software community. At the same time, NEC Soft, a Japanese software development and systems integration firm, also has joined the community..."
