"The backlash against proprietary software continues, with a new survey showing that companies are turning to the open-source MySQL software to build their databases. According to a report from research company Evans Data, which questioned over 500 developers, the use of MySQL has risen by 30 per cent over the last year compared to a six per cent user increase for Microsoft’s SQL Server and Access databases.

"While Microsoft products continue to dominate the database development market, the attractive pricing of open-source software and its ability to be easily integrated with other tools and systems fits the priorities of application developers...'"
