"As a rule stated by the Open Source Initiative (OSI), open source programs are available free of charge. The thinking is this will produce more useful and bug-free products as anyone can review and suggest changes to the source code for the betterment of the program.

"Now I think open source is great. Anything that helps foster transparency, greater choice and more open standards computing has to be a worthy cause. But I sense that in some cases it is being trumpeted for the wrong reasons. In some corners it is becoming over zealous in the way it is being promoted as something that stands for simply being anti-Microsoft or anti-proprietary..."
