"Microsoft Corp. today will ask an international body to certify
its new computer file format as an international standard for
reading and storing documents, a move it hopes will keep its
ubiquitous Office software from being removed from thousands of
computers in Massachusetts government.
"The Romney administration is pressing forward with a plan to
have millions of digital documents and other public records stored
in a different format, called OpenDocument, by January
2007...."
