Is Open Source Complacent?

"As you probably have heard or read about by now Microsoft has
made another deal with another open source company. This time
Linspire has signed a deal with Microsoft to license VOIP and
Windows proprietary media formats and true type fonts. My question
is why? There is no need as those technologies are already in the
open source world.
"I believe the real reason that companies like Novell, Xandros
and Linspire have signed a deal with Microsoft is complacency and
laziness. They would prefer to spend money using existing and
proprietary technology because it is available and easier instead
of helping develop newer open technology that can provide more
benefit to a larger audience..."
