"An important part of getting up to speed with
virtualization technology is recognizing that the Ubuntu image is a
full-fledged Linux operating system. As such, you can run this
Linux instance and interact with it either locally or across a
network. One interesting application for such an operating system
facility is using it as a preinstalled platform on which to
distribute software. Used in this way, the image and the associated
software are available as an integrated environment."
