"Larabel started Phoronix.com in June 2004 with the intention of
catering to the Linux market. The idea sprang from his
disappointment with the then-current state of hardware
compatibility lists and databases. "For the desktop hardware that
was supposed to 'just work,' it wasn't that elegant and often
required additional steps to properly set up the driver or
configure the options. Telling a user to use a revision control
system to obtain the latest development code for a software
component and then build it from source is not an appropriate
option."
