"With the advent of the new standard, a couple of vendors have launched “cash for clunkers-themed” promotions to encourage legacy users to upgrade their equipment.

"San Francisco-based innovator, Meraki, announced its “Cash for Wireless LAN Clunkers” event on September 9th. The special promotion [represented by the photo, right, courtesy of Meraki] includes a $150 credit for each access point traded in for a Meraki network. To qualify for Cash for Wireless LAN Clunkers, customers must register with Meraki and make their purchase by September 30, 2009.Cash for WLAN Clunkers1.JPG

"“We understand that today’s economy makes it challenging for organizations that want to upgrade their IT infrastructures,” said Ivan Montoya, Vice President of Marketing at Meraki in a press release. “So we want to make it easier for them to trade-up from an aging 802.11b/g wireless network to a Meraki 802.11n wireless LAN, the new standard.”

"Meru Networks also announced its “Cash-4-Clunkers” promotion today. The initiative will offer enterprise businesses a rebate of $200 per legacy AP using micro-cell technology when traded in and replaced with the purchase of one with Meru’s 802.11n wireless LAN virtual cell technology."
