Wired: Netscape CEO Takes the Stand

Oct 21, 1998, 16:01 (0 Talkback[s])

But his testimony is overshadowed by another iteration of one of the great legends of modern times, the notion that Microsoft cannot be a monopoly because Linux Torvalds could single-handedly create an operating system to rival Windows:

"Consumers can choose to buy IBM OS/2 or Linux. 'One person in Helsinki [Linus Torvalds, the author of Linux] can quickly write the core of a sophisticated operating system,' and any attempt to overrule their choices amounts to an 'attack on the free market.'"

The story is identical with "Netscape CEO testifies on Microsoft meetings" just released on YAHOO! News.
