"Just when you thought Microsoft (MSFT) 's lawyers couldn't fit any more clowns in the car, they work some final zingers into a filing that was supposed to be a formality. Judge Jackson asked that Wednesday's filing address the "form," not the substance, of the government's final breakup plan. But Microsoft arguments such as "the relief requested by the government is extreme and unjustified" might seem pretty substance-oriented to some."

"The Post-Intelligencer offered a concise, bulleted list of some of Microsoft's major suggestions. Among its semantic points, Microsoft asked that the breakup be referred to as a "divestiture" rather than a "reorganization" and noted that the government never properly defined "Internet browser." Microsoft also asked that "a sentence about ensuring that rival products 'interoperate effectively' with Microsoft products be trimmed to remove the word 'effectively,'" according to the Wall Street Journal."
