Australian IT: Sun Scorches Office in NT

"The temperature is rising between Sun Microsystems and Microsoft in the battle for the hearts and minds of desktop software users.

"Sun has signed a deal with the Northern Territory education department to provide its StarOffice package of desktop applications--a direct competitor to Microsoft's Office software--to nearly 7000 users: 4400 secondary students and 2500 teachers.

"It is Sun's largest single licensing arrangement for the software in Australia since the company began targeting the desktop market a year ago..."
