"IBM was the first major IT vendor to back Linux, surprising the
world in 2000 by announcing a $1 billion investment in Linux. By
the beginning of 2002, IBM's Bill Zeitler, head of the IBM server
group was claiming to have recouped most of that investment 'In
sales of software and systems.'
"Since then IBM has made the transformation to become a Linux
company, (in so far as any vendor can). All but two of IBM's cross
platform software products now run on Linux--and the remaining two
will be available on Linux within the next 6 months..."
