CodeWeavers, Inc. and Lycoris today announced a partnership aimed at giving computer users a powerful new reason to switch to the Linux operating environment.
Beginning in July 2004, Lycoris Desktop/LX will be bundled with CodeWeavers CrossOver Office, the number one Windows-to-Linux software application. Packaged in a new product called Lycoris PowerPak, desktop users will now be able to run Quicken, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Macromedia Flash and Dreamweaver, and scores of other popular Windows applications and plug-ins, natively and seamlessly within Desktop/LX.
As part of today's announcement, Lycoris will also begin selling CrossOver Office as a standalone product to the public via all Lycoris wholesale and retail outlets as well as its Lycoris store. CrossOver Office, priced at $39.95, will also be available beginning in early July.
"Millions of people around the world are looking for reasons to switch to a Linux desktop operating system. Being able to run common Windows applications natively in Linux is one of the most prominent," said Rus Bayne, Vice President of Sales for Lycoris. "Bundling CrossOver Office with Desktop/LX is an incredible combination of solutions that will greatly accelerate the migration from Windows to the more reliable and robust Linux computing platform-especially now that both will be available at a discounted price."
"CrossOver Office provides support for the everyday applications most people use most often," said Jeremy White, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CodeWeavers, Inc. "By joining Desktop/LX and CrossOver Office, average computer users will be able to translate away from Windows, while also saving money using Windows applications they already own and know how to use."
Purchasers of Lycoris PowerPak will receive both Lycoris Desktop/LX and CrossOver Office as a single, integrated solution. CrossOver Office will launch directly from the Desktop/LX Flower Menu, giving users easy access to both CrossOver Office and any other compatible Windows applications they have installed in their desktop computer.
CrossOver Office supports more than 30 of the most popular Windows productivity applications used around the world today-with new products being added each day. In addition to Quicken, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Outlook and Access, Apple QuickTime, and Macromedia Flash and Dreamweaver. CrossOver Office also supports most common Microsoft productivity applications. A full list of the applications enabled by CrossOver Office without the need for a Windows installation can be found at www.codeweavers.com.
Beginning in July, Lycoris will also provide a special offer for all existing customers of Lycoris Direct, the company's automatic upgrade service; the offer will enable to upgrade to PowerPak at an even lower retail price. For more information, visit www.lycoris.com/store.
