I have been working on this issue for two weeks, and have come to the determination that the time has come for mass action.

BellSouth recently announced ADSL service in the Columbia, SC, area -- a service for which I was told Linux was an acceptable operating system. However, despite all technical logic, BellSouth is now flat-out refusing to even come and install the line if you are not running one of their "approved" OSes. My every attempt to speak to someone "in the know" at BellSouth has been snubbed with no return calls, constant convenient excuses for people not being there, etc.
