"Wow. this was definitely the week of denial of service attacks. Major services got hit and taken down. SecurityPortal got hit by "shrapnel" when another Exodus customer (buy.com) was hit (the ping times went from 60-80ms to 17,000 between the servers and my location). I think it is safe to say that the majority of DOS attacks wouldn't happen if machines were properly secured, and could be used to launch attacks on other parties. Of course if that were true I wouldn't have a job.
"We lead off with vendor advisories (distributions, then any major software ones), then mailing list related traffic, any interesting tidbits and then the tip of the week."
