SOT Linux Security Advisory

Subject: Updated grep package for SOT Linux 2003
Advisory ID: SLSA-2004:12
Date: Wednesday, April 7, 2004
Product: SOT Linux 2003

1. Problem description

The grep program is a utility for searching through text files.

A deficiency has been identified in grep's search algorithm. The algorithm was found to be extremely inefficient when searching UTF-8 encoded text. The source of the inefficiency has been identified and fixed.

UTF-8 is a text encoding method for multibyte representations of characters.

All users are advised to upgrade to these erratum packages, which resolve this issue.
