"It's a poorly kept secret that Cincinatti Microwave, best known for making radar detectors Back In The Day, also manufactured a lot of the radar guns used by police. It was thus in their best interests to keep making better radar detectors, which encouraged police to buy better guns, and speeders to buy better detectors to detect the new guns. It's kind of like supplying the weapons to both sides of a civil war at a handy profit.
