Google to Launch Packaged Desktop ApplicationsAug 11, 2012, 03:00 (0 Talkback[s])
(Other stories by Anonymous)
When a user opens a packaged app it doesn't have a traditional omnibox (address bar), tab strip, and other browser interface elements no longer appear. Like native apps, they don’t live within the browser.
Packaged app pages will always load locally which allows apps to be less dependent on the network. Once a user installs an app, they have full control over it. They can open and close quickly, and the system can shut apps down at any time to improve performance. Users will also be able to fully uninstall apps.
