InfoWorld: Intel’s Xeon is caching in

For managers committed to Unix, the introduction of Xeon makes
the Intel-Microsoft pairing less inevitable and opens possibilities
for adding more horsepower at lower costs on the Intel
platform.

Intel said it is “OS neutral,” and it is making good on this
claim by promoting the Uniform Driver Interface (UDI), which will
help Unix providers write drivers for Intel hardware.

The company already offers such pertinent information to NT
developers, so the company is finally giving Unix equal time.
Source code for UDI will be open and available to the Linux
community, according to Intel officials.
