Mosfet.org: Desktop Elegance

“Recently there was a Slashdot [sic] article where Bart
Decrem, cofounder of Eazel, slammed KDE:

“‘My big gripe about KDE is I think it’s butt-ugly. The main
reason I keep using GNOME is that the icons on KDE are
aesthetically offensive to me. And the letter K is kind of
offensive, it’s not very elegant. There’s an elegancy missing in
the thing.’ He then goes on to promote Lycoris.

“In a later slashdot comment he apologizes, says the only reason
he said KDE was butt-ugly was the icons and other artwork related
issues, and that KDE is a terrific piece of software. I guess I’m
confused. Here’s a person who spent millions of other people’s
money on Linux UI software when all he didn’t like about KDE were
the icons? It certainly wasn’t Qt, he’s now coding using Qt for
Hancom and says “Qt is the building block for my employer’s
software, and it’s a great piece of software.” He says similiar
things about KDE itself. The fact that he also says Lycoris “fixes”
all these issues makes me feel he’s just slamming the KDE project
in order to promote Lycoris, but I want to get into the issue a
little deeper…”
